Karen Bax, Ph.D., C. Psych
Director, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Education
I am passionate about using my skills and experience to increase the well-being and resilience of vulnerable children. My work as a registered Clinical Psychologist provides me with the practice wisdom to more clearly see the essential ties between research and practice and better understand the complexity of implementation science research. In addition to Directing the Mary J Wrigt Centre, I train future practitioners through offering a practicum in psychology through our partnership with Merrymount.
My research interest involves applied research related to social-emotional learning, mindful awareness and self-regulation of children and families who have experienced adversity. I currently hold grants investigating the feasibility and impact of an 8-week community program for children and their parents teaching social-emotional skills, mindfulness and positive psychology to support the whole family.
